Acción Catolica Arquidiocesana. (Archdiocesal Catholic Action)
The Acción Católica Arquidiosesana is the participative organization of lay members in the hierarchical apostolate of the church; its motto is to "Feel with the Church".
The Acción Católica is as old as the church. In the time of the apostles there were secular members who helped in the evangelizing work. In Colombia, it was founded in Bogotá, in 1.944, being its first president, Mrs. BELEN RISARALDA DE COPETE.
This was one of our first donation programs and it set the standards for our future contributions. The school was built by the Accion Católica Community from Barranquilla in a neighborhood which lacked the necessary educational programs. It serves more than 200 children in 2 shifts within the ages of 1-6 and it is used also during weekends for community work and training for parents. Colombian pop singer super star Shakira has been a donator to the children of this school. LBH Colombia has been participating of their enthusiasm and developments creating their library and Systems room, as well as keeping them with required and updated teaching materials.
In Barranquilla the Feminine Catholic Action was founded on the 21st. of February of 1945 under the Episcopal period of Monsignor Julio Caicedo y Téllez, Bishop of the city.
At the present time, the Acción Católica Arquidiosesana (Arquidiocesan Catholic Action of Barranquilla) is conformed by around 60 partners along with 7 parochial centers which thrive in the city, continuing with their social work in the Buena Esperanza (Good Hope) neighborhood, created as a School for children, but also feeding and evangelizing to about 100 adults and providing training to a number of young ladies.
